When Fran and Graham (our almost neighbours) invited us for dinner it ended up being almost a whole day affair as it started with a very early morning mission to the docklands for a shopping trip at Billingsgate Fish Market.
It was a v yummy dinner, although those of us who had an early start were certainly feeling by dessert!

When the Laundry King, came into our lives he had a very positive influence on the beer appreciation in the family.
It seemed logical then with Amy's sister Brenda and her husband (LK) visiting us in the UK for a few days before heading of to warmer climes to leave London for the small Warwickshire village of Harbury for their annual beer festival.
The theme was ale of many colours, and each of the 55 plus beers all somehow had a colour theme. Between us all we made a fantastic effort to get through the brilliantly named beers (Hung Drawn and Portered was one of the better names that comes to mind).
It was a great day out, and something to be done again no doubt (although perhaps not with the morris dancing).
In keeping with our promise to spend "summer" in the UK, we took the train up to the Yorkshire Dales for the last bank holiday in August.
Paul had chosen a place in the middle of the famous Settle to Carlise tourist train route, so not only did we have the pleasure of being in the north where people actually speak to strangers on the trains (and to be fair we had a very strange one as we left Leeds), but we also had people selling tourist guides and telling us where to look out on the train journey!
We stayed a in tiny little hamlet called Cowgill. I think that the only feature on the OS map was in fact the pub that we stayed in. And it was lovely to be so isolated and to see so much green.
The reason that the Dales were so appealing was the chance to go out walking in the countryside so in spite of the threat of rain we had two lovely days walking, and two lovely evenings by the fire at the pub.
Dent was having their summer fair while we were in the neighbourhood so Amy took great pleasure in looking at the fare competition (although thought that the marmalade winning the jam completion was a bit scandalous).
Amy also took hundreds of photos of the wide open spaces, but here are just a few.

Paul & Amy left NZ in September 2005 on a global pursuit of decent coffee.
This quest has taken us to about twenty different countries (or a new one every couple of months), and there are many more still on the list. Not only have we learnt about coffee but we can now tell the difference between mint tea in various north African states. We have perfected the art of travelling with carry on luggage only with all liquids in containers of les than 100mls. And on every ryanair flight we swear it will be last. And the last one really was.
We are now off on the adventure of a life time. With no jobs, no house, and no particular responsibilities we will be travelling through Europe, the Middle East and Africa, no doubt still looking for decent coffee. And the best bit, we're not travelling with carry on, so can carry large-ish bottles of liquid!
